Tacloban and Leyte
Leyte Trips, a Slideshow of this set on Flickr.
I have been going in and out of Leyte lately. It’s one of the large islands in Visayas and it is just a stone’s throw away from the Pacific Ocean. Leyte is close to my heart, my grandparents come from this place – my grandfather is from Tacloban and my grandmother is from Dulag. I haven’t know or met relatives yet from here, but given additional time, I would try and meet them!
By the way, Palo, Leyte is the spot where Gen. Douglas MacArthur landed when he fulfilled America’s promise of freeing the Philippines from the Japanese during World War II. Leyte both land and sea became one of the bloody battlegrounds in the Pacific.
Fast forward today, Tacloban and Ormoc cities in Leyte are bustling with commerce and enterprises. Tourist spots also abound the island and nearby Samar interconnected by San Juanico bridge. Beaches, secluded islands and world-class surfspots like in Guiuan, Eastern Samar can be accessed from Tacloban.
It is indeed more fun in the PH.
